After going through the Rahul Sanskrityayan's 's book 'Asia Ke Durgam Bhukhando Se' , I have got the idea of travelling through the toughest route of Kullu-Manali-Rohtang Pass-Keylong-Lachulanga Pass-Tangalanga Pass-Leh tour along with N.H.-21.This route passes through all the ranges of Himalayas spread over 574 Km and several passes at very high attitudes. I have travelled this through route several times in dreams. A good company of friends is essential for this tour.
My colleague Sri S.N. Singh invited for arranging the tour of Kullu-Manali. This invitation has given fire to my swept desire of trans Himalaya Kuluu- Manali-Leh journey. . Later on it was extended as Kullu-Manali-Leh-Kargil-Srinagar-Jammu-Tawi. S.N. Singh was hesitating in extending the journey up to Leh but I started the group formation and after a great hitch & this & that finally a six member team was ready to proceed on the tour. Sri S.N. Rai, Sri S.N. Singh,Sri Moolchandra, Sri S.K. Bhatia & Mohd. Shahid Latif along with me (Ram Chandra Mishra) was in the team. It was decided that we leave train at Chandigarh and take an INNOVA for chandigarh-manali-Leh-Srinagar-Jammu journey and board on train at Jammu after 8/9 days of road journey.
Though there was great exicement but everybody was in doubt about successful completion of journey & his safe return. And almost all proceeded with wet eyes leaving their kith & kins in tears. There were big doubt in family members for safe & pleasant journey.
We boarded on Punjab mail & reached Chandigargh at 10.00 Am after changing train at Ambala Cant. We started for Manali at 11.30 hours from Chandigarh after a little repair of INNOVA.
We started our journey along N.H.-21. We had our lunch in a road side hotel Deepak Dhaba at Bharat Garh near Mandi. A new IIT campus is being established at Mandi. After 15 Km from Bharat garh we reached in hill area and we are now on high gradients. Now NH-21 is passing through the near by areas of Naina Devi. After few Kilometer of travel, we reached on the bank of river Vyas. Now we are moving side by side to Vyas. At 16.30 we stoped at Raja Hotel Barnana. A big number of foreign & country side tourist were there.
We moved from Barnar at 17.00 Hours and arrived Devdar at 18.00 Hrs , where we faced a big road jam due to washed road in rain. It is about sunset we were able to move for Mandi.
